Accessibility statement

We want everyone who runs or supports a business to be able to use ScaleupKickstarter. This page says plainly what works, what does not yet, and how to get help.

Using this service

This statement applies to ScaleupKickstarter, the business diagnostic operated by hibretOne, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. It covers the public pages, your workspace, the diagnostic itself, your report and shared report links.

You should be able to:

  • change the text size, spacing and contrast
  • switch to an easier-to-read font
  • stop movement on the page
  • ask for your report in another format

How accessible this service is

We know some parts of ScaleupKickstarter are not yet fully accessible. We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA and we are not there yet. The parts we know or expect to have problems are:

  • There is no “skip to main content” link, so keyboard users have to move through the navigation on every page.
  • Charts and score visuals in your report may not have a full text equivalent, so a screen reader may not describe everything they show.
  • The downloadable PDF report has not been tested with a screen reader, and we do not believe it meets the PDF accessibility standard (PDF/UA). Its charts are pictures. See alternative formats below.
  • The conversational diagnostic and the report pages have not yet been tested end to end with a screen reader or with a keyboard only.
  • Very large text settings may crowd some fixed layouts, such as the page header and the score ring. We have not yet checked every page at the largest setting.

The accessibility menu

Every page has an accessibility button in the bottom right corner. It opens a menu where you can change the text size, line height, letter spacing and font weight, switch to an easier-to-read font (OpenDyslexic), change the contrast and colour saturation, highlight links and headings, stop animations, use a reading guide or a larger cursor. A Calm mode button at the top applies the quieter settings in one press. The menu is available in 53 languages.

Your choices are kept on your own device so they are still there when you come back. They are never sent to us. The menu is a convenience: it does not fix the problems listed above, and it works alongside, not instead of, the settings in your browser and operating system. The menu is built on the open-source Sienna widget.

Alternative formats

If you need your report or any page in a different format, such as an accessible PDF, a Word document, large print or plain text, tell us and we will produce it for you at no cost. We aim to reply within 5 working days.

Reporting accessibility problems

We want to hear about anything that does not work for you. Please tell us the page address and what went wrong:

Enforcement procedure

If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information

hibretOne CIC is committed to making ScaleupKickstarter accessible. This statement follows the structure of the UK government’s model accessibility statement.

Compliance status: ScaleupKickstarter is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, because of the problems listed above.

How we tested this service

We have not yet completed a full accessibility audit. Our colours are chosen to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios, and most of our animation respects your operating system’s reduce motion setting. A full manual audit, including keyboard-only and screen-reader testing across every page, is planned. We will update this statement when it is done.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

Our current priorities, in order:

  1. A full manual audit, including screen-reader and keyboard-only testing.
  2. A skip link and a clear heading structure on every page.
  3. Text equivalents for the charts and score visuals in the report.
  4. An accessible version of the PDF report.

This statement was prepared on 27 October 2026. We will review it at least once a year, or sooner if the service changes significantly.
